Report: Arsenal now think ‘magnificent’ player actually has a future at The Emirates

Arsenal think they might actually be able to convince Eddie Nketiah to stay put at The Emirates this summer, despite repeated talks of the young striker moving on.

Nketiah is out of contract with the Gunners and hasn’t signed fresh terms as yet. He has a number of clubs interested in signing him and is thought to be keen to explore avenues where he’ll get first-team football.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are now hopeful of Nketiah actually remaining in North London and are preparing to put a fresh proposal to the former Leeds loanee. Arsenal are hoping the faith shown in him by Mikel Arteta in midweek can help persuade Nketiah, while promises over future minutes can also help.

Nketiah produced a blistering display at Stamford Bridge – described as ‘magnificent‘ by Martin Keown – to outline his credentials as a number nine for the Gunners.

This season has been one of frustration in the main for Nketiah. He’s seen first-team chances limited, despite Alex Lacazette not being in the goals and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leaving. Further, Arsenal are in the market for a new striker this summer, which could push him further down the pecking order.

TBR’s View: Nketiah Has A Big Call To Make At Arsenal

It does play into Nketiah’s hands more than Arsenal, really. He can either choose to leave for nothing or sign a new deal on enhances terms. Even if he doesn’t play once a new deal is signed, he can always be sold at a future date.

For Arsenal and Nketiah, it is a big decision. Obviously, one performance doesn’t make a career. But he did look to have plenty about him at Chelsea and he showed his finishing prowess off well.

If Nketiah does stay put, it will give Mikel Arteta a touch of breathing space when it comes to his attacking options.
