Arsenal have tried and failed to sell blundering Mustafi for last two summers

Arsenal have been trying to sell German international defender Shkodran Mustafi for two consecutive summer transfer windows, according to the Daily Mail.

They report that Unai Emery wants once more to get the defender out the door this summer, having failed the year before, after Arsene Wenger, the man who brought him to the club, tried also.

Mustafi earns £90,000 a week at the Emirates Stadium according to Spotrac, and has been a weak link for the Gunners for quite some time now, with the most recent example coming in Sunday’s 3-2 home defeat at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

That result put a dent in Arsenal’s hopes of finishing in the top four and qualifying for next season’s Champions League via the Premier League.

Mustafi has been holding Arsenal back as much as anyone in recent seasons and his continued presence in the Gunners side must be a constant source of frustration for the fans.

It may be reassuring to hear that the club is actually trying to get rid of the German, but the fact they’ve not been able to find a buyer in two windows and yet still play him has to be a worry.

And Emery knows it’s important to get shot of him before the start of next season, to give his backline a boost.
