Arsenal have ‘spoken about’ approach for £50m ace likened to Dennis Bergkamp

Arsenal aren’t expected to do much business in the January transfer window, but speculation linking the Gunners to a new forward continues to do the rounds.

Arsenal‘s front line hasn’t been at its best this season. And while Gabriel Jesus is a world-class player, he isn’t really the prolific target man that the Gunners also need.

Ivan Toney has been heavily linked with Arsenal the last few months, as has Victor Osimhen. However, both are likely to be non-starters for the Gunners in the January transfer window.

Bologna ace Joshua Zirkzee is another one of the forwards said to be on the Arsenal radar this month. The Telegraph recently reported that Mikel Arteta is keeping tabs on the 22-year-old.

However, Fabrizio Romano recently poured cold water on this report, claiming only a “crazy proposal” would convince the Serie A side to sell their asset mid-season.

Arsenal target Joshua Zirkzee likely to be ‘one more for the summer’

Now, Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport that there may not be much enthusiasm from Arsenal with regards to making a move for Zirkzee this month.

The transfer insider reckons a move for the Dutchman is likelier to come at the end of the season.

“Yes, it actually is more one for the summer,” he said. “It’s going to be difficult to do now.

“And even if they raised the funds this month, I don’t think that’s the player that they would go for.

“In terms of a long-term signing, I do think Zirkzee has been spoken about. But I find it very difficult to believe that could be done now.

“I’ve heard that this would be one more for the summer if it was to happen at all.

“It’s really, really difficult to read Arsenal’s situation right now. Because genuinely the word out of the club is don’t expect much from us.

“There will only be deals done if they have incredible value to them. Zirkzee doesn’t really sound to me like a player that holds incredible value.”

Even though Arsenal really could do with a new striker, the Gunners – as with every other club – simply cannot go all out in the January transfer window.

Financial Fair Play regulations will stop Arsenal from spending big this month because of their heavy expenditure last summer on the likes of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz.

And with Bologna reportedly wanting around £50million for Zirkzee, it would be a difficult transfer to pull off at this moment in time.

Arsenal should definitely keep tabs on the 22-year-old though, as he is a quality player with amazing potential and a high ceiling.

Indeed, there have even been comparisons with Highbury icon Dennis Bergkamp.

Former Italy international Francesco Graziani is quoted as saying by Bologna Sport News in December: “Technically he is very good and has shown that he sees the goal.

“In Zirkzee I seem to see the Dutch Dennis Bergkamp: someone who made your eyes shine with his technique.”
