Arsenal have 'some reservations' over Youri Tielemans - journalist
The Belgium international has long been linked with a move to Arsenal. It has been almost a year since rumours first emerged, but a move still hasn’t materialised.
Jones suggests that Arteta and Arsenal are not fully convinced.
Arsenal have ‘some reservations’ over Youri Tielemans
Tielemans entered the final year of his contract in the summer, and many people expected him to leave Leicester City for a new club very early in the window.
The Gunners were the club who were most linked with a move sign him, and it was even reported that Tielemans would pick a move to the Emirates over Manchester United because he ‘wants to play for Arsenal’ (Ben Jacobs on The Football Terrace).
Just last week, the same journalist told GiveMeSport that the Belgian ‘has his heart set’ on a move to Arsenal, but Jones has now claimed that the Gunners have some reservations about bringing him in.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think they need to make sure that he’s still the same player that they thought he was when they were beginning their pursuit.
“This is a year-long thing now since Arsenal have been looking at Tielemans.
“There’s obviously some reservations around it given they didn’t go and sign him in the summer when they could have.”
If Arsenal really wanted Tielemans, they would’ve signed him last summer.
The Belgian is a fantastic player, there’s no doubt about that. He has proven his class in the Premier League, and the fact that he had less than a year left on his contract in the summer made him a very attractive option – at least on paper.
However, neither Arsenal nor any other club in Europe decided to make a move for Tielemans, which really does make you think that clubs are not fully convinced about him. Or, they are maybe just waiting for him to run down his contract to sign him for free.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Tielemans in 2023.
