In total, six first team players left Arsenal permanently this summer, Edu made impressive progress in his attempts to conduct a small squad overhaul.
Mikel Arteta said goodbye to Arsenal fan favourites Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah and Aaron Ramsdale, a trio who will go on to succeed elsewhere in the Premier League.
And then there were the likes of Mohamed Elneny, Cedric Soares and goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, who all left on a free transfer at the end of their respective contracts.
In their place, Arsenal welcomed four new signings, believing they had offloaded players on the periphery of things with high-calibre replacements, which was always the plan.
That being said, there are still one or two situations to still be resolved, players who are still slightly in limbo.
It’s gone under the radar that Kieran Tierney stayed at the club, who hasn’t previously been in Arteta’s plans, and there’s also Omar Rekik – who was free to leave the club on deadline day.
Arsenal fail to make Omar Rekik announcement despite reports that he’s left
Arsenal were open to selling Rekik on the final day of the window, a move that never happened.
Since then, it’s been reliably reported that Arsenal mutually terminated Rekik’s contract, meaning he’s no longer a player at the club.

Oddly, there’s still been no official communication from Arsenal, who would surely be planning to confirm the news on their end.
And whilst there’s been no announcement on social media nor the club website, Rekik’s name has now disappeared from the official site.
That would therefore suggest that reports are correct regarding ‘excellent’ Rekik no longer having a contract with Arsenal.
But it’s still slightly odd that there’s been no official communication on the matter – the club gave a good send off to Charlie Patino who left from a similar position – stuck in limbo between Hale End and the first team.
Kieran Tierney could be a surprise option for Mikel Arteta this season
As mentioned, Tierney remained an Arsenal player despite exit talk, likely because of the injury he suffered away with Scotland at the Euros.
The defender suffered a serious hamstring injury whilst playing for his country, which probably scuppered his chances of finding a loan or permanent move this summer.
It remains to be seen when Tierney will be fit, but perhaps he could become a surprise option for Arteta in cup competitions were he to return before January.
The Scot remains an exceptional talent, even if he isn’t quite what Arteta is looking for these days.
But there’s no doubt that Tierney could shine in the EFL or FA Cup for example, which would also give him the opportunity to prove his fitness ahead of a transfer.
