Arsenal have held talks with AC Milan about signing Sandro Tonali - journalist
Mikel Arteta’s side began the new campaign in spectacular style. They picked up a very impressive victory over Crystal Palace away from home, and Arsenal fans don’t have a lot to complain about the performance on the night.
However, the transfer window is still open, and Arteta said after the game that the Gunners will try to strengthen their squad further, which means there’s still a possibility for at least one new signing in this window.
Many people’s guess is that it will be a new midfielder, and Tonali is the latest name to come out of the rumour mill.
Arsenal want to sign Sandro Tonali from AC Milan
It is no secret that Arsenal are in the market looking for a new midfielder. Youri Tielemans is the player who has been heavily linked, but the fact that the Gunners haven’t yet made a move for him has led people to believe that Arteta could be looking at someone else.
Camelio, a transfer insider on Radio Kiss Kiss, has now revealed that the Gunners are interested in signing Tonali and have even held talks with AC Milan over a potential move.
He told CalcioMercato.it: “Milan and Arsenal met and talked about Tonali.
“The Rossoneri have declared that the midfielder is not transferable, but if a proposal for €55 million (£46.4m) arrives, Milan could sell him and make two purchases”.
Arsenal could definitely do with a new midfielder before the window shuts, and young Tonali is a very interesting option.
The 22-year-old was once described as the heir to Andrea Pirlo’s throne in Italy. He featured 45 times for Milan in all competitions last season, and played an integral part in helping them win the Scudetto.
Tonali is viewed as one of the finest midfielders of his age in Italy. He is a phenomenal talent, with Paolo Maldini going as far as saying he’s a player with ‘enormous’ qualities.
However, the Italian is more of a number six than a number eight. Arsenal already have Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny in that role, while Granit Xhaka and Albert Sambi Lokonga can play there as well.
That makes us wonder if Arsenal even need Tonali, but Arteta works in mysterious ways, and he may well have a plan for the talented Italian if his interest really is genuine.
