Arsenal have golden chance to sign £86m striker and his favourite shirt number is available

Arsenal are running out of time to strengthen before the transfer window officially slams shut, with a striker still yet to walk through the doors at the Emirates.

Eddie Nketiah has already agreed personal terms with Crystal Palace as he looks set to leave Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta is leaving himself rather light in the striker department as Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz will likely be his only options if he doesn’t act quick.

Evan Ferguson is of interest to Arsenal so there’s clearly some thinking going on at the Emirates.

However, one thing that will be interesting if a big target man joins is how Arsenal may differ in possession and how they set up, as Arteta has been used to having a quite versatile player up top in the form of Havertz so far this season and throughout the last.

With that being said, he may not have to change things, as the perfect opportunity is presenting itself for Arsenal to put their name into the ring for one of Europe’s most lethal strikers.

The stars are aligning for Arsenal to sign Viktor Gyokeres before the window shuts

Viktor Gyokeres recently opened the door for Arsenal to move in for him with some cryptic words over his future.

“You never know what happens. I feel very good at Sporting, for sure; but in football there are things you don’t even know.

“I feel very good here, I’m very happy at Sporting and I don’t have any problem”.

That slight bit of openness to a move could be enough for Mikel Arteta to finally make his move.

Afterall, his favourite shirt number 17, which he wore during his time at Coventry City and for Sweden on the international stage, was vacated by Cedric Soares this summer.

That’s not all, as a report from Correio da Manhã (as per Daily Cannon) states that Sporting Lisbon are concerned Arsenal are going to come in late in the window and activate the striker’s £86 million release clause.

With Aaron Ramsdale looking like sealing a move away and the Nketiah fee looking to be around £30 million, there could be some extra funds to help fund a move like this.

Can Viktor Gyokeres be Arsenal’s 30-goal man?

If Arsenal fans thought Kai Havertz has been good then they’re not ready for Viktor Gyokeres.

Gyokeres scored a hat-trick in his last outing which takes him to six goals and three assists in just four appearances for Sporting Lisbon in all competitions this season. This, after scoring a whopping 43 goals and adding 15 assists last season.

Manchester City are the prime example of the importance of having a prolific striker up top, which arguably proved the difference in the title race last season as Erling Haaland picked up the Golden Boot.

One of the big talking points amongst fans and pundits last season was the striker situation. Arteta is missing that final piece to really take his side to the next level, and currently there’s no better option on the market.

Plus, Gabriel Jesus is already in injury trouble so there’s the potential for things to turn south if Havertz was to join him on the nursing table.
