Arsenal have been linked with a move for former Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen.
Corriere dello Sport suggests that Inter Milan are keen on a potential swap deal with the Gunners for Switzerland international Granit Xhaka. Inter boss Antonio Conte appears to be a fan of the Arsenal midfielder, however, the Italian is not so hot on Eriksen.
The Dane has struggled for regular playing time since swapping Arsenal’s North London rivals for the San Siro. However, he was an extremely popular player with Spurs and the club were disappointed to lose him.
Indeed, when Tottenham brought Eriksen to English football back in 2013, it came after previous interest from Arsenal.
As reported by The Guardian in March 2010, Arsenal were keeping tabs on the then-Ajax youngster. Arsene Wenger had reportedly identified him as ‘an Arsenal start of the future’ and received glowing reports from former Highbury hero Dennis Bergkamp.

Eriksen, who was just 18-years-old at the time, had recently made his debut for the senior Danish national team and Arsenal were hoping to swoop in and get their man.
However, Eriksen signed a new deal with Ajax and, in 2013, Tottenham got him on the cheap as he approached the final year of that deal.
Since then, Wegner has never made his admiration for Eriksen a secret. He compared him to Luka Modric as recently as last year and it is clear that the Frenchman would have loved to have Eriksen at Arsenal.
“He’s the outstanding player of Tottenham,” Wenger told beIN SPORTS. “The worry for Tottenham is can they keep a player of that quality.
“He has developed extremely well. He can score, he can deliver on set pieces, he can give a final ball, he works very hard for the team.
“You do not find many players with so many qualities. He’s the player that Modric was before at Tottenham but he scores more goals!”
If Wenger had gotten his man, then Eriksen would have ended up being a team-mate of the current Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta.
Now, it seems that Wenger’s former player might have the chance to finally bring Eriksen to The Emirates – 10 years after Wenger first wanted to make the move happen.
