Arsenal have been watching Celtic midfielder Matt O'Riley for years - journalist
Reports revealed in the final week of the summer transfer window that Mikel Arteta’s side were battling Liverpool and Manchester United to sign the 21-year-old, who has been brilliant for Celtic since the start of this season.
Arsenal have been watching Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley for years
O’Riley started off his career in London, with Fulham. He came through the ranks there, but his career didn’t quite go to plan. He left Lilywhites and after six months as a free agent, he joined MK Dons in January 2021.
The talented Dane played 54 times for the Dons before making a move to Celtic last year. He has impressed there, especially since the start of this season, having picked up five assists in six league starts.
It is no surprise that clubs in England are keen to sign O’Riley, who has been branded as ‘fantastic’. Jones has revealed that Arsenal have been keeping tabs on him for a long, long time now.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “O’Riley is someone who’s been on their watchlist for years, since he was coming through at Fulham he was a player they were keeping tabs on him.
“To varying degrees, he hasn’t quite lived up to his billing at that point. At MK Dons and Celtic, he’s displayed some traits that could show he is a top talent and there’s always been a few clubs sniffing around for him.”
Real Madrid warned about O’Riley
Celtic take on Real Madrid in the Champions League tonight, and the defending European champions have been told to keep an eye on O’Riley, who could cause them a few problems tonight.
A newspaper in Spain hailed the 21-year-old’s quality and performances this season.
They brand O’Riley as a ‘very powerful’ player, with a good left foot. His assist to Jota in the Old Firm Derby recently has also been hailed as ‘wonderful,’ and he could be one of Celtic’s danger men tonight.
