Arsenal newcomer Martin Odegaard has been described by Norway teammate Morten Thorsby as an “exceptional” player.

On Friday, the Gunners announced Odegaard’s return to the Emirates Stadium, this time on a permanent deal.

According to Sky Sports, the 22-year-old has joined Arsenal for an initial £30million plus bonuses worth around £4million.

Odegaard shone on loan at the Emirates in the second half of last season, providing the Gunners with creativity at No. 10.

Zinedine Zidane wanted the 22-year-old to stay and fight for a spot at Real Madrid in January, but “it wasn’t to be”.

And obviously earning the Norway captaincy at such a young age also underlines his talent and credentials.

Mikel Arteta also has Hale End graduate Emile Smith Rowe at his disposal, so there’s plenty of competition in that area.

Arsenal have made a “great signing”

Thorsby predicts his international captain has what it takes to be a success for the Gunners.

“(Odegaard) is an exceptional player and a great signing for Arsenal,” the Sampdoria ace told Sky Sports News (19/8/21, 4pm).

“He’s still young and has come such a long way.

“I don’t see any limits to his talent. He’s a very serious player who wants to become better.”

Arteta’s charges face Chelsea at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon in a 4pm kickoff.

However, Odegaard won’t be available for that Premier League match.
