Shock rumours on social media claimed this week that Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli could return to Brazil on loan in the January transfer window.
That made absolutely no sense at all. The young attacker hasn’t been playing a lot these days due to competition for places. But, he is a phenomenal talent and sending him out on loan, especially back to Brazil, seemed a ridiculous claim.
Those rumours, however, got Arsenal fans thinking if a loan move to club in a big league is a possibility in January. More game time would be brilliant for Martinelli, who we all know has the potential to become a superstar.
However, his dad, Joao Martinelli, has squashed those rumours.
Martinelli’s dad: Arsenal will not let Gabi leave
Martinelli Sr. spoke to Yahoo Brazil this week about his son’s future ahead of the January transfer window. He made it absolutely clear that the little Brazilian will not be leaving the Emirates in the winter window.
He said: “Since he came back from an injury, he has been playing a lot less than he would have liked. They even painted some proposals from Europe, but Arsenal have already warned that they will not release him.
“People like him a lot. Not only for how he plays, but also for his dedication. Martinelli is almost always the first to arrive for training and the last to leave
“There is no chance of him going to Corinthians or any other Brazilian club!”

TBR View:
That should be that. Arsenal completely believe that Martinelli will be a huge player for them and they aren’t prepared to let him leave, not even on loan.
It’s difficult for the Brazilian to nail down a place in the side at the moment. He has Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette ahead of him in the pecking order up front, while Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka have made the wide positions theirs.
Arsenal not playing in Europe is a big problem too, as Martinelli, labelled as ‘very special‘ by Freddie Ljungberg, would’ve surely been a regular if the Gunners were in the Europa League.
It will be interesting to see how much Martinelli will play in the coming months. It’s unlikely that he’ll get to start many games, but an injury to one of Arteta’s main men at the top could well open the door for him.
