Arsenal handed big boost in reported pursuit of 21-year-old who's like a 'young Lukaku' - TBR View
Arsenal are reportedly keen on bringing Dusan Vlahovic to the Emirates Stadium next year.
According to a report in The Mirror from September, the Gunners are “circling” around the Fiorentina striker, as are Liverpool.
And Arsenal have just been handed a huge boost as it has emerged that Vlahovic will not sign a new deal at the Italian club.
“Our proposal would have made him the highest paid player in the history of the club,” Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso told the club website.
“However, the offer has not been accepted.”
Vlahovic’s contract expires in the summer of 2023, which means the Viola only have next year to get a sizeable sum for him.
And the 21-year-old is one of the best young strikers in European football, so they surely won’t want his value to depreciate.
Sky Sports reported in August that Vlahovic is valued at around £51million, and there’s bound to be plenty of suitors next year.
Arsenal will need a new centre-forward in the coming months, with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah both out of contract next summer.
It’s likely that both will leave next year and, as far as potential replacements go, Vlahovic would be one of the best.
The Serbia international joined Fiorentina in 2018 from Partizan Belgrade and has developed into a lethal striker.
In 92 club appearances, Vlahovic has registered 35 goals and five assists, including 21 goals in 37 Serie A matches last term.
He has hit the ground running this season too, with six goals and one assist from eight games in all competitions.
Arsenal eyeing striker compared to Haaland, Mbappe and Lukaku?
According to Italy legend Christian Vieri, Vlahovic is comparable to the likes of Erling Braut Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.
“I think that, after Haaland and Mbappe, he’s one of the strongest in Europe,” he said on his Twitch channel.
“He has quality, technique. He is Serbian and they are all technically good. They are called the Brazilians of the east.”
Former Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic recently told Football Italia: “He will be the best striker of the next few years with Erling Haaland.”
Meanwhile, some fans have compared Vlahovic to Romelu Lukaku:
Vlahovic would be a beast of a striker, if handled by a great coach— K.C.O™ (@peretesi) September 23, 2021
He's 6'3 foot
Good in hold up play
His good in finishing
Is okay in aerial duels
Great built (like Lukaku) and he's just 21, so can improve greatly
We need such a presence in our team
and vlahovic will be like lukaku or haaland with his strength and goalscoring ability— Hg22 🇮🇹🇦🇺 (@barellacalcio) September 21, 2021
Brutal take. Vinicius is/was a tap in merchant. Had some solid contributions for us in the Europa & cups also but Vlahovic has so much more in his locker. Reminds me of a young Lukaku.— BuckeyeSpurs11 (@BuckeyeSpurs11) August 3, 2021
The only player that is capable of replacing Lukaku is Dušan Vlahović even though he’s still far the level Romelu is on right now. Still pain losing the best number 9 in Italy but this would somewhat seal the wound. #FCIM 🔵⚫️ pic.twitter.com/mXbMGZS8yE— #ELJARDINERO⚡️ (@J4FN1_) August 3, 2021
