‘Did he have to make this comment?’: Some Arsenal fans really not happy with £35m man

A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to criticise Granit Xhaka for comments he made prior to tonight’s Europa League clash.

Xhaka joined Arsenal in 2016 from Borussia Monchengladbach for £35million and has made 200 competitive appearances for the North Londoners.

His time at the Emirates Stadium has been eventful to say the least, with some highs and some lows.

The highs include two FA Cup victories, while the lows include his public fall-out with Arsenal fans in October 2019 and his red card against Burnley.

Xhaka remains very much in Arteta’s plans at present, doing well in front of the back four alongside either Thomas Partey and Dani Ceballos.

And speaking ahead of the last-32 second leg against Benfica, the Swiss praised Arteta, saying the manager is “one of the reasons” he’s still at Arsenal.

“The coach is helping me a lot,” he told “Everyone knows he is one of the reasons why I’m still at this club.

“I have a very good relationship with him and he’s helping me day by day, on the pitch, outside the pitch.

“I’m very thankful for him because if you have one coach who gives you the confidence and freedom it’s more easy for the player.”

Some Arsenal fans felt Xhaka was suggesting that, if it weren’t for Arteta, he wouldn’t be at the Emirates now, with no mention made of the Gunners supporters.

Here is what some said in response:
