Jamie Carragher has named Arsenal’s opening game of the Premier League season at Brentford as his best footballing moment of 2021.
And the Sky Sports pundit believes the Gunners’ defeat to the newly-promoted side made for an even better spectacle.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal kicked off the 2021-22 campaign against the Bees on Friday 13 August.

It was an emotional occasion as it was the first full-capacity Premier League game for 522 days.
The latter stages of the 2019-20 season, as well as most of the 2020-21 campaign, took place behind closed doors.
While the tail end of 2020-21 saw some fans allowed in, the Brentford v Arsenal game was the first with full capacity.
That said, it wasn’t a good occasion for Gunners supporters come full time.
Arsenal fell to a 2-0 defeat as Sergi Canos and Christian Norgaard scored for an opening-day shock result.
On Sky Sports, Carragher picked the 2021-22 Premier League season opener as his favourite moment of 2021.
“Just to have the fans back, it just made me realise how much we missed it.

“And for so long it feels like we’ve been watching a different sport, with no fans in the stadium.
“Listen, Arsenal fans won’t like me saying it but when you get a newly-promoted team up and they win that first game…
“The energy… the atmosphere is fantastic, and I just missed the support being there so much.”
Arsenal fans certainly won’t want to remember August, but the Gunners are a different beast now.
They’ve gone from bottom of the table in the September international break to fourth in the Premier League table.
