Arsenal fans will love what Aaron Ramsdale did after England’s game today - TBR View

England hammered their way past a dismal Iran side at the World Cup in Qatar today, with Bukayo Saka among the stars for the Three Lions.

Saka was in fine form on the day and repaid Gareth Southgate’s faith with a brace. His first was a well-taken volley from just inside the edge of the area. In the second half, Saka then teased a number of Iran defenders before firing low into the bottom corner to put the seal on a fine performance.

Of course, there was a lot of love for Saka doing the business. His last big moment in an England shirt saw him miss the deciding penalty when England lost to Italy in the Euros final. However, there was no such error today.

And at the full-time whistle, Saka’s Arsenal teammate and goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale, was on hand to give him a welcome ‘cuddle‘. Of course, the moment was more poignant given Ramsdale’s words on Saka in midweek.

The stopper had spoken at length of his admiration for his teammate. For England, having such bonds is massive. And after such a fine start to the World Cup, it was clear as day that Ramsdale was made up for his pal Saka.

TBR’s View: Ramsdale and Saka an example of tight England camp

While Ramsdale probably knows he’s not going to play in this World Cup he seems the sort of character to really get behind his teammates. And it’s clear he did that with Saka.

His words in midweek struck a chord. It showed how much he cared for and respected Saka. The Arsenal winger has come back from the lowest point to now shine on the world stage.

Gareth Southgate will be delighted, of course. But for the Arsenal fans, it’s yet another proud moment in what is turning into a season to remember for all involved.
