It seems like only yesterday that Andre Onana looked set to join Arsenal this summer. But the transfer window works in mysterious ways, and this no longer looks like the case.

The Ajax keeper’s agent has confirmed that he is in talks with Ligue 1 and UEFA Europa League club Lyon.

Albert Botines said to Voetbal Primeur: “Yes, they (Lyon) are interested. The clubs are in talks.”

Indeed, Onana isn’t legally allowed to play football until November at the earliest. The keeper is unable to participate in the sport after taking an illegal substance.

Onana is perfect for Arsenal

Yet there is no denying that the Cameroonian international would be an incredible addition to any top side in need of a goalkeeper this summer.

Moreover, with Arsenal looking for a new number one, Onana fits the bill of what the Gunners need.

Indeed, the 25-year-old is an outstanding athlete who is quick off the goal line and able to make fast reaction saves to deny attackers who test him.

What is more, is that Onana is a modern-day keeper who is excellent on the ball, a skill that is becoming more and more important for shot-stoppers in this era of football.

Gunners have to beat out competition for keeper

With Goal reporting that Onana is available this summer for just £7m, it seems like a no-brainer that Arsenal should sign the Ajax keeper.

Yet the Gunners appear to be mulling over a deal for the shot-stopper. Indeed, Arsene Wenger is a fan of as per Football Oranje.

A goalkeeper is clearly on Arsenal’s shopping list this summer. And the club will find no better option than Onana in terms of value for money and longevity in the squad.

Competition is heating up for the shot-stopper, and supporters will be fuming if Arsenal misses out on Onana and end the summer signing an Aaron Ramsdale or Sam Johnstone with the Cameroonian available for a much cheaper fee.
