Arsene Wenger clearly had a huge amount of faith in Alex Iwobi; he promoted him into Arsenal’s first-team plans and offloaded wingers Alexis Sanchez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott within a matter of months, trusting the Nigerian international to step up.
Unai Emery is clearly also a fan of the academy graduate, who is perhaps the only genuine, direct, pacy winger available to the Spaniard right now and perfect for a new high-tempo Arsenal side.
Iwobi is still only 22 years old and that lack of experience can still bring inconsistency, both within the same game and from match to match, which can frustrate fans who are so demanding at a huge club like Arsenal.
Iwobi was substituted at half time in Sunday’s north London derby and although he lasted 20 minutes longer in last night’s 2-2 draw at Old Trafford, he struggled to get into the game.
Emery’s side were getting a lot of joy down their left, with Sead Kolasinac dominating Diogo Dalot throughout, but Iwobi was unable to get in on the act.
Some Arsenal fans viewed it as a passive performance and took aim at the star on Twitter…
Iwobi is so bad. I thought he was improving under Unai but he's so uncreative. He's either supposed to be providing at least 3 to 8 assists a season and at least 10 goals otherwise he's not doing much. I'd rather have Ozil on the left and Mhki/Laca/Ramsey on the right.

Iwobi is not a winger, or at least one fit for a top 4 team, plus he tends to disappear in big games, like our last two

@alexiwobi i don't know what you did against ManU…no any meaningful impact in the game..sometimes you become a passenger and that's a big problem in your game..work on it bro

Its horrible watching iwobi. Pls get rid of that boy.

@alexiwobi has alot of talent but he just stops running during parts of the game. He needs to start chasing down the loose balls and not just give them up and of course be more direct and confident in front of goal. Fix those issues and we won't need another winger
