Arsenal fans discuss signing Manchester United's Donny van de Beek, amid reports he could leave Old Trafford
Arsenal fans have been discussing the potential signing of Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek, who is struggling to get any sort of game-time with the Old Trafford club.
Van de Beek signed for United in a deal worth around £40m in September of 2020. Since then, however, the Dutchman has found things hard at Old Trafford under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. A lack of minutes, plus what appears to be a lack of trust from the manager, has seen the midfielder’s future called into question.
Other clubs are said to be keeping tabs, too. Everton are said to watching how Van de Beek’s situation plays out. While Newcastle United, fresh from new investment, may also end up casting admiring glances.
But it is Arsenal fans who have been discussing the potential signing of Donny van de Beek on social media, with Twitter full of comments about what a move for the United man would mean.
For Arsenal, January could prove a tricky time for the club. Both Thomas Partey and Mo Elneny are due to go to the African Cup of Nations, while Granit Xhaka might only just be back from his injury. It’s likely to leave the Gunners short in midfield.
It’s only natural, then, that someone like van de Beek is being discussed among the Arsenal faithful. The Dutchman, 24, very much fits the age profile of players Edu and Arteta are signing. We’ve seen similar in the summer, with the likes of Lokonga, Ramsdale, and Ben White all signed.
Donny van de Beek, then, could prove to be an interesting proposition for the Arsenal transfer committee.
Point to Prove
Van de Beek is obviously a frustrated man at the moment. Any footballer not playing would be. Even more so, a player who was so used to being a star man for Ajax. Clearly, it must sting for the midfielder.
And it doesn’t look like his luck will change any time soon. Solskjaer seems to have a favoured XI, and sadly for van de Beek, he is nowhere near that XI.
But a move to Arsenal might give him the chance to put some spark back into a career that needs a fresh injection of energy. We all know van de Beek has quality. He’s proven it with Ajax. He just needs the chance to show the Premier League what he can do.
A move to Arsenal could offer him that chance. Of course, he’d face stiff competition again. But his versatility means that Arteta could look to utilise the midfielder in a variety of roles. Whether that be as an 8, a 6, or even a number 10, van de Beek could well contribute.
Arsenal fans, then, have been throwing their thoughts on van de Beek about on Twitter. And while some feel the midfielder would be a pointless signing, plenty of Gunners supporters can see value in his signing.
Here, then, is what some Arsenal fans had to say on the possibility of making a move for Manchester United outcast, Donny van de Beek.
Always been a fan from his Ajax days. Brilliant replacement for Xhaka. Can play in the 6,8 and 10 but is more of a 6 and 8.

Before he went to Man U I always thought he would be a good fit with Arsenal. He was quality at Ajax.

Even though his value has dropped, he’d be costly because he still 3yrz on his contract. VDB would be much needed addition to our midfield. Plus he is young.
