Arsenal fans want to see Ramsdale start ahead of Leno
Arsenal gave a Premier League debut to Aaron Ramsdale against Norwich and the young ‘keeper impressed.
The fans were pleased with their new summer signing and now they want to see the 23-year-old retain his spot against Burnley.
Ramsdale didn’t come cheap, either.
The young goalkeeper was signed for a hefty £30m over the summer (Sky Sports).
However, it hasn’t taken him long to displace Bernd Leno, who started in the first three league games before being dropped.
The German shot-stopper has been the club’s number one since 2018 when he signed from Bayer Leverkusen.
He has made some big mistakes, though, and having a capable deputy is crucial.
That’s where Ramsdale comes in.
He may have suffered back-to-back relegations, but that doesn’t make him a poor goalkeeper.
His past won’t bother the fans either, as they’re just keen to see what he can do for them now.
Against Norwich Ramsdale had very little to do, yet he looked assured from the first whistle.
The opposition will have had a lot to do with it, but that win was Arsenal’s first clean sheet of the season in the Premier League.
Now, the fans are calling for him to get another start.
If he does play vs Burnley then it tees up a Carabao Cup game the following week with Leno in goal vs Wimbledon.
After that it’s a tantalising North London derby.
That game could be the one where Ramsdale really stakes his claim as the club’s number one.
A strong performance in a win over Tottenham would go a long way to him becoming the main man.
A poor performance, though, would do the exact opposite.
Until then, though, Ramsdale will just hope he can start against Burnley and show why he should be the club’s first choice ‘keeper.
