Ainsley Maitland-Niles is an intriguing player at Arsenal whose versatility makes him a great option within the squad – but some of the club’s fans on Twitter have agreed that he should be given the chance in the side to fix down a position at right-back.

The 23-year-old can play a variety of different positions to a great standard, but that positive can be his own downfall at times as he’s yet to really nail down a spot in the starting XI under manager Mikel Arteta.

He’s currently away on international duty with England, who have preferred to use him in a left wing-back position in their system.

Maitland-Niles has played at left-back for club and country in the past few months, as well as also featuring at right-back and a central midfielder for the Gunners.

The versatile star is a highly-rated talent to come through the Arsenal academy, but aged 23 he will surely want to start fixing down one spot and at the moment he is more of a utility option that is ready to stand-in when needed.

A selection of Arsenal supporters on social media have suggested to Arteta that Maitland-Niles deserves a fixed opportunity at right-back over teammate Hector Bellerin.

He is a right-footed defender that looks more comfortable as a right-sided full-back and offers a great balance both offensively and defensively, but one issue is that Bellerin is in favour with the manager and at times has shown signs he’s recapturing some of his best form.
