Arsenal fans want James Ward-Prowse signed after classy England display

England won 5-0 against San Marino last night and after James Ward-Prowse scored his first goal for his country, some Arsenal fans took to Twitter to rave about his performance.

It’s not unfair to say that the Southampton ace has likely been called up for his beautiful expertise when it comes to set-pieces. His goal last night was from open play but he did sting the goalkeeper’s palms with a free-kick later on.

Ward-Prowse is a one club man. Having risen through the ranks at Southampton, he has made 312 appearances for the Saints and is currently Ralph Hasenhuttl’s captain.

There could become a point where the 26-year-old joins a bigger club, however. It has to be said that if that is going to happen, someone will have to fork out mega bucks.

The maestro has a contract at St Mary’s which will see him stay at the club until 2025 and under no circumstances will he leave on the cheap.

Given the fee it’s likely to take to prise him away from the south coast, Arsenal are probably out of the picture. That hasn’t stopped their supporters from raving about him on Twitter after last night though.

Ward-Prowse has scored eight goals and registered five assists during the current campaign. He has been a mainstay in the team under Hasenhuttl throughout the campaign and continues to improve.

A professional performer, the Saints man works hard, passes the ball well and also doesn’t mind sticking a foot in.

His creativity from the middle of the park is probably something which Arsenal could utilise and it’s easy to see why some supporters would welcome him at the club.

Boss Mikel Arteta is likely to target a few players in the summer but with Champions League football unlikely, he could have to cut his cloth accordingly.

With that in mind, the stellar players in European football might be off the table, forcing the Spaniard into shopping in a different market for summer recruits.

Ward-Prowse will probably command a fee in excess of £30 million and it does seem unlikelly that Arsenal will fork out such a sum for a midfielder.

The £45,000-a-week player quietly goes about his buisiness and it’s no surprise to see that fans of other clubs are starting to notice his qualities.

Following his heroics in last night’s win against San Marino, supporters reacted on Twitter, informing Arteta they’d love to see Ward-Prowse at the Emirates Stadium.

Here is what they had to say…
