A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to implore Mikel Arteta to hand Folarin Balogun his first start for the first-team on Thursday as the Gunners face Molde in the Europa League.

The Gunners have a chance to put one foot in the knockout stages of the competition this week. They have won their opening two games, and now face the other side in their group who boast a flawless record.

In their previous game, Arsenal beat Dundalk 3-0 at the Emirates. It was also a game which saw the highly-rated Balogun make his debut for the Gunners’ first-team.

There has been plenty of talk concerning Balogun in recent months. As noted by the Daily Mail, he is out of contract at the Emirates next summer. And his performances for Arsenal’s under-23s prompted Sheffield United to make a bid to sign him permanently during the previous window.

It remains to be seen what the long-term future has in store for the 19-year-old. But in the short-term, many would like to see him handed his first start this week.

Alexandre Lacazette may well be rested. Meanwhile, Arsenal fans know exactly what Eddie Nketiah can do. So some have insisted that Balogun should be given a chance.

He has proved that he is a natural goalscorer. Balogun has scored 14 goals in 33 Premier League 2 games throughout his brief career. He had previously bagged 34 in just 33 at under-18 level.

And some are clearly confident that he can make an impact if Arteta promotes him to the starting lineup against Molde…
