Arsenal fans want club to sign Leeds star after clip emerges from Monday match
Raphinha sparkled once again for Brazil in the early hours of Monday morning, his second cap for his country. Leeds fans were delighted for their winger, after a brilliant debut helped his country beat Venezuela. But another fanbase are becoming impressed – in the form of Arsenal.
Raphinha, 24, made his debut for Brazil last week. Coming off the bench with Brazil surprisingly trailing Venezuela – he laid on two assists as Brazil came back to win 3-1. It was a surprise to many that the Leeds ace was not in the starting line-up on Monday, as Brazil took on Colombia.
Again, he came off the bench to make his second cap – shining on the right flank. Raphinha caused all sorts of problems as Brazil looked to maintain their 100% record in South America 2022 World Cup qualification. But the 0-0 draw is the first dropped points in 10 group stage outings.
The Leeds ace, who has started the 21-22 campaign in stunning form – should have got an assist for Neymar. It would have been his third in two Brazil caps, and fifth goal involvement in nine games for club and country. But Neymar’s first touch was horrific, and Colombia’s defence cleared up.
Do Arsenal need a player like Leeds star Raphinha, at the moment?
Probably not. Arsenal are beginning to form an identity under Mikel Arteta. A double pivot of Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka, behind an attacking trio of Emile Smith-Rowe, Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka is exciting. Bu it is also true, that none of those three are probably a natural right winger.
Not like Raphinha, who in 37 Premier League matches has scored nine goals and created nine more. A bargain at just £17million. He is not just about goals, assists or trickery either. Working under Marcelo Bielsa for the best part of 18 months has taught him the importance of work rate.
He has it all, does Raphinha. A true superstar in the making, and likely to be a regular by the time the 2022 World Cup in Qatar swings by. But another question, is how long can Leeds keep the ex-Sporting Lisbon and Rennes magician? Could he leave Leeds by the time the 2022 World Cup swings by?
What do Arsenal fans think of Leeds star Raphinha – after Monday?
Comparing Raphinha to Nicolas Pepe at the moment is intriguing. Not only would many argue Raphinha is in better form, playing with confidence – but there is a massive argument to suggest that when both are at their best, Raphinha is the better player. Interesting, given they cost £55million apart.
Pepe, of course, was bought for £72million by Arsenal and in all honesty – has not lived up to half that figure. Raphinha, meanwhile, continues to see his price tag grow and grow. While Leeds will eventually lose him, it will be for a pretty penny. Timing is everything for the Leeds wide man.
Arsenal fans responded on Twitter after watching Raphinha shine in the yellow and blue of Brazil – and many want the Leeds ace at The Emirates.
