Brighton drew 0-0 with Everton last night and despite the game offering little in the way of quality, Arsenal fans couldn’t help but reserve praise for Seagulls midfielder Yves Bissouma.
The energetic performer caught the eye once again during the stalemate and it seems crystal clear that Gunners supporters would welcome him to the Emirates Stadium.
Bissouma has been at the AMEX Stadium since 2018 when he checked in from Lille for £15 million. He has played 88 games for the club, scoring four goals and claiming one assist.
Of course, he’s not renowned for his goal contributions and the midfielder typically operates as a shield for the back four. He has played 16 times in such a role this season.
Arsenal will need to cut their cloth accordingly this summer. Their participation in Europe isn’t confirmed just yet and without that on offer, they might have to shop at a different market.
The very top players could be out of reach for Mikel Arteta and being savvy might be the order of the day for the club’s recruitment team once the transfer window reopens.
Bissouma is unlikely to cost the earth and although a transfer fee might be hefty his wages would be more than affordable for Arsenal.
He earns just £27,000-a-week at Brighton and with a significant wage rise, the Gunners could still afford a decent salary for him.
Arsenal have a plethora of midfield talent but the jury is out on whether some of them can take the club forwards.
Granit Xhaka is a determined individual and Thomas Partey will surely offer more to the team next season once he is properly settled in the Premier League.
Dani Ceballos will probably go back to Real Madrid when his loan spell ends, however, whilst it’s probably fair to say the club needs better quality than Mohamed Elneny.
Whether or not Arsenal will prioritise Bissouma remains to be seen. He is a good player but the Gunners might feel the final third is in need of strengthening more urgently.
Last night he showcased his qualities and broke thing up nicely in the middle of the park. He is also useful in possession and keeps things ticking over nicely from midfield.
His calmness is perhaps what Arsenal supporters like about him, with Xhaka in particular capable of becoming erratic when the going gets tough.
The world’s stellar recruits might be out of Arsenal’s reach when the transfer window reopens but that doesn’t have to be a worry.
A player like Bissouma could help take the Gunners to the next level; whilst at 24 he is a player who is yet to reach his prime years.
After last night’s game, supporters were left in no doubt as to whether or not he’d be a useful addition to Arteta’s ranks.
They reacted on Twitter and here is what they had to say about the performance of Bissouma.
Bissouma showing his qualities in advanced areas today. Fair play, has a lot more to his game than I thought, even though I'm a big fan of his.

I want to see Yves Bissouma at Arsenal so badly. So composed on the ball. Such a baller.

Bissouma would be good at the carpet @Arsenal

Yves Bissouma is a serious talent. Needs to be picked up by a Top 6 club in summer. I think he suits Arsenal (next to partey) perfectly.

Nice player. Imagine a midfield fulcrum of him and Partey.

The absolute perfect player to have alongside Partey! Those two would be unstoppable.
