The big story out of Arsenal yesterday was the club confirming on their official website that Laurent Koscielny would not be going on the pre-season tour.
The Frenchman wants to be released in order to move away on a free transfer and has taken it upon himself to refuse to travel to the United States in order to force the situation.
A club statement read: “Laurent Koscielny has refused to travel to the US for our pre-season tour. We are very disappointed by Laurent’s actions, which are against our clear instructions. We hope to resolve this matter and will not be providing any further comment at this time.”
This is not particularly useful behaviour from the club captain at a time when the Gunners have been accused of lacking leadership – but who should be the club’s new captain?
There was a groundswell of support on Twitter for £110,000-a-week (Spotrac) defender Hector Bellerin, who will miss the start of the season through injury.
He has drawn criticism throughout his Arsenal career, but many online fans think he knows what the club means to the fans and could bring the dressing room together.
There is perhaps no obvious standout candidate currently at the Emirates Stadium to take over from Koscielny – who has not been formally stripped of the captaincy yet – but Bellerin has some support among the fans.

Bellerin, knows what it means to bleed red. I would appoint Ozil as second captain tho.
