Arsenal face Portuguese side Benfica on Thursday night – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter have insisted that Nicolas Pepe should be recalled to the starting XI.

The Gunners were handed a difficult draw in the Europa League Round of 32, as they face Benfica in a two-legged tie.

They lost in the final of the Europa League competition to Chelsea two years ago, but will hoping to go one step further and it could be the club’s best route into next season’s Champions League due to the inconsistent domestic form.

Mikel Arteta’s side cruised through the group stages this campaign, winning six out of six and scoring 20 goals.

The North London club go into tomorrow’s fixture off the back of a 4-2 win over Leeds United in the league.

A selection of Arsenal supporters on social media have urged their manager Arteta to bring Pepe back into the team.

Pepe, who cost the Gunners £72million (BBC), has scored four goals so far this season in 16 Premier League.

But the 25-year-old winger has been far more successful in the Europa League, scoring three goals and setting up three assists in the six group matches.

He is a left-footed wide player with great technique and an eye for goal, but his form has been inconsistent since he moved to the Emirates Stadium and he’s failed to live up to the price tag.

Here are some Arsenal supporters on social media discussing Pepe:
