Arsenal fans urge Mikel Arteta to sign free agent Maleng Sarr

News emerged yesterday that Arsenal are keen on signing wonderkid central defender Maleng Sarr during the summer, according to Marca.

The 21-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving Nice at the end of his contract. Arsenal and Red Bull Leipzig are apparently the two frontrunners for his signature.

Mikel Arteta has overseen a mini-revival at the Gunners with his team now unbeaten in five games in all competitions.

That doesn’t mean he will rest on his laurels in the summer, however, and defensive recruits will surely be a must.

David Luiz and Shkodran Mustafi both have an error in their locker and Arteta would dearly love another centre-back.

Sarr played 119 games for Nice, which for a 21-year-old gives him plenty of experience at senior level.

Last season he played 19 times, operating mainly at centre-back but also covering at left-back when required.

Arsenal supporters seem keen to see a defender added in the summer and many have been reacting to the Sarr link on Twitter.

The vast majority believe that he’d be a shrewd signing on a free, clearly feeling he could become a star of the future.
