Viktor Gyokeres was treated to a chorus of boos from Manchester United fans on his full Arsenal debut at Old Trafford.
Before being replaced by Kai Havertz in the 60th minute, Viktor Gyokeres delivered something of a mixed showing back on English soil.
The Arsenal striker was holding up the ball pretty well at times during his one versus one battle with United defender Matthijs de Ligt.
However, the Swede didn’t have a shot of note, nor did he really enjoy an opportunity to threaten United’s goal.
And whilst Gyokeres is still incredibly early in his Arsenal career, Gunners fans have already reached one interesting conclusion.

Martin Odegaard failed to find Viktor Gyokeres’ runs according to Arsenal fans
Particularly after watching Gyokeres in the first half at Old Trafford, a lot of Arsenal fans on X felt as if their new striker was actually being held back by their captain, Martin Odegaard.
In fairness to Odegaard, he was quite effective with the ball at times, but his performance ultimately proved to be pretty disappointing, at least in the eyes of some fans.
Taking to X, one fan wrote: “Gyokeres might never hit the ceiling because of players like Odegaard and [Gabriel] Martinelli.”

Gyokeres received a 6/10 rating from Sofascore for his efforts – he lost the ball 11 times and only completed 44% of his nine passes.
However, many felt as if Odegaard was to blame for not providing better service to his new teammate, particularly on the counter.
Another supporter wrote: “Odegaard is so scared to make a true pass. He’s going to waste Gyokeres in this team…”
Perhaps some will feel as if the criticism of Odegaard’s contributions is a bit unfair, but fans seemed convinced that Gyokeres was there to feed, if only his captain had done better.

Martin Odegaard admitted Arsenal were too ‘hectic’
Interestingly, in a half-time interview with Sky Sports – a new initiative this season, Odegaard admitted that the first 45 minutes had been too ‘hectic’.
And perhaps some will ultimately feel as if his words were slightly hypocritical.
Speaking at half-time, Odegaard said: “It’s been a bit too hectic at times, and we need to control the ball a bit better and be a bit more accurate when we counter.
“They have quality and really good players up front. We let them play through us a bit at times, but we had some good chances to score.”
Again, in defence of Odegaard, the Arsenal captain was taking a lot of responsibility on the pitch throughout his performance, and he is also adjusting to playing with a new striker.
And given all that the Norwegian has contributed to the club in recent years, he should be afforded more time to prove himself playing alongside Gyokeres.
