Arsenal fans stunned by one moment from Cedric Soares in win over Newcastle

Arsenal produced an excellent second-half display to ease past Newcastle United 3-0 at The Emirates on Monday evening – and Gunners fans were stunned by one moment of brilliance from right-back Cedric Soares.

The Gunners have stretched their lead to five wins in six as well as a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace with a fine performance in the second 45. Steve Bruce’s side had held their own in the first half, the scoreline reading 0-0.

But in the second half, Arsenal came out firing. A good bit of work from Thomas Partey saw him find Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the winger ran at the Newcastle defence before firing in a left-footed effort past Karl Darlow.

A lovely jinking run from Emile Smith-Rowe saw the youngster continue to shine in the shadow of the soon-to-be departing Mesut Ozil, as he cut inside from the left flank before finding Bukayo Saka to sweep the ball home.

The night and the three points were secured when Cedric kept the ball in play to square for Aubameyang, who controlled a lively cross to tap home. Cedric, 29, was only given his second Arsenal run out in the league this season.

But he took that chance with both hands, shining on the right flank especially in the second half. At one point, with his back to goal, he even backheeled the ball through Jamal Lewis’ legs for Saka to run on to.

Many Gunners fans were stunned on Twitter by the £75,000-a-week star’s (Spotrac) piece of ingenuity, which almost created a goal. One fan labelled him “underrated”.
