Arsenal fans stunned as Ramsdale omitted from England squad

Some Arsenal fans have been left stunned after Aaron Ramsdale was left out of the England squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

What’s the story?

After making the Euro 2020 squad, due to an injury picked up by Dean Henderson, the 23-year-old is not in the latest side.

Instead, Gareth Southgate has picked Burnley’s Nick Pope as part of his three goalkeepers.

The boyhood Arsenal fan is yet to make an appearance for the Three Lions.

The omission is a blow for the former Sheffield United ace, who enjoyed a dream debut for the Gunners.

Ramsdale kept a clean sheet as Arsenal romped to a 6-0 win over West Bromwich Albion in the Carabao Cup.

The figure had only completed his move to the Emirates Stadium last week for a fee believed to be £24m.

Ramsdale does not deserve an England call-up purely because he signed for Arsenal

If you are an Arsenal fan, you probably feel hard done by.

Last night was as perfect as a debut can go for a goalkeeper. Ramsdale made numerous good saves as he kept out a second-string Baggies side to keep his first clean on his first start.

But, ask yourself, what does it change in the grand scheme of things?

The 23-year-old was already out of Southgate’s plans for England when he was left out for Euro 2020. He only made the team due to injury to another player.

Signing for Arsenal does not automatically mean Ramsdale is worthy of an England call-up.
