Arsenal fans stunned as club receives devastating injury blow

Arsenal have been stunned by the news that Granit Xhaka will be missing for three months. The midfielder limped out of the action as the Gunners battered Tottenham 3-1 on Sunday.

Xhaka has worked hard to silence his Emirates Stadium critics. He had been in fine form since signing a new contract with the club during the summer.

The 29-year-old had seemingly been on his way out of the club. Roma were interested, with boss Jose Mourinho desperate to take him to the Italian capital.

That move never came to fruition though and Xhaka will now continue his career at Arsenal.

Xhaka has made four appearances for the Gunners in the Premier League this season. He was sent off against Manchester City, subsequently missing two games through suspension.

Now, this latest setback is a real blow for the Gunners. They will be without their main midfield man for three months and must now cope without him.

Xhaka has done well to revive his Arsenal career during the last 12 months. He has been with the Gunners since 2016 and has played 225 games, scoring 13 goals and registering 20 assists.

Who replaces Xhaka in the Arsenal team?

Arsenal do have options. Albert Sambi Lokonga has looked capable when called upon but whether he is ready for a regular starting berth remains to be seen.

There is also Ainsley Maitland-Niles who could come into the fray. He was on the verge of leaving the club in the summer but has stuck around at the Emirates Stadium.

It does seem as though the supporters are somewhat disappointed to lose Xhaka for a considerable amount of time though.

They’ve taken to Twitter to discuss the news regarding the £100,000-a-week midfielder.
