Arsenal’s search for a striker continues, and in the last few hours, things have taken a turn with Andrea Berta now considering another target.

Benjamin Sesko appeared to be the number one target at the Emirates Stadium, but a deal for the 22-year-old is proving tricky at this stage.

RB Leipzig are standing firm over their valuation of the Slovenian international, which has led the Gunners to start thinking about other moves.

Now, after seeing where their sporting director has turned to, Arsenal supporters have a clear message about their pursuit of Sesko.

Arsenal fans think that Hugo Ekitike could actually prove to be a better signing than Sesko this summer.

The Gunners’ supporters believe that the Frenchman’s style of play could actually suit what Mikel Arteta wants from his striker better than both Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres.

Reports claim that Berta has a serious ‘interest in Ekitike’, with talks for his top two targets having now stalled.

Liverpool and Manchester United also like Ekitike, so the North London club could face competition for the 22-year-old should they make their move.

TBR Football understands that Arsenal want a striker signed before pre-season starts and the North London club are confident that’s going to happen.

But following the news about their interest in Ekitike, Arsenal fans have taken to X to share their thoughts on how the young French attacker compares to Sesko.

One fan said: “Wenger would have signed Ekitike. He’s miles better than Sesko.

Another claimed: “Ekitike over Sesko. He’s a young, talented striker with 15 goals and eight assists in the Bundesliga. Wenger would’ve signed Hugo Ekitike because he’s a potential Henry regen.”

There were further calls to sign Ekitike over Sesko: “How about the fact that Ekitike is simply the better striker? Ekitike even scored more goals than Sesko in the same league last season.”

Finally, another fan stated: “Ekitike is way more rounded and complete than Sesko. It’s not even close.”

Ekitike also outperforms Sesko in most attacking statistics, with the Frenchman most notably having scored and assisted more goals.

The 22-year-old also managed more shots, more shots on target and rather interestingly created more chances, showing the other side of his game.

It’s worth noting that Leipzig had a rather tricky, underwhelming campaign; meanwhile, Ekitike was in a Frankfurt side which flourished en route to qualifying for the Champions League.

But the striker played such an important role in helping them return to Europe’s elite competition by managing an impressive total of 23 goals and assists combined in the Bundesliga.

Arteta’s side are going to have to bite the bullet and pay a considerable fee either way, but on the face of it, Ekitike actually looks the better choice.
