Arsenal fans react to Tuesday announcement on Thomas Partey

Thomas Partey didn’t enjoy a brilliant maiden campaign in the Premier League. Yesterday, however, the Ghanaian made a big announcement to the club’s official website.

The former Atletico Madrid man struggled with injuries last season. He did manage 36 appearances in all competitions but failed to garner any consistency.

Now, he’s having a change of shirt number. Partey will wear the number five next season. The number was vacant last season and the 28-year-old is now in possession in the shirt.

Next season will perhaps prove make or break for the 28-cap star. He will need to live up to the hype and start showing people why Arsenal decided to pay such a hefty sum for him.

Partey was fantastic for Atletico Madrid. He made 188 appearances for the club, scoring 16 goals and claiming 12 assists.

The midfielder failed to scale any real heights at the Emirates Stadium last season. During 2021/22 he needs to have a more prominent role in the team.

Now he’s got the number five shirt on his back, he could kick on. Clearly it’s a number he likes to wear and he could feel more at him with it on his back.

Arsenal fans seem happy with Partey switch

The Gunners faithful seem happy that a player now has the number five shirt once more. Some famous faces have worn the shirt in the past and Partey will have big boots to fill.

Arsenal need to improve next season. Eighth place won’t do for Mikel Arteta again and he will need some new recruits.

It does seem likely that Partey will remain a big part of his place. He too will need to kick on though and start to justify his substantial price tag.

Following yesterday’s big reveal, the Arsenal fans have been reacting on Twitter, with plenty of supporters happy for the player.

Here is what the Arsenal fan base had to say after Partey decided to switch his squad number for the new campaign.
