A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react to comments Tony Adams made to Sky Sports concerning how close the Gunners came to signing Jude Bellingham.
Bellingham has achieved another major accolade in his already impressive career this week. The 17-year-old has been called up to the England senior squad for the first time for this international break.

It has come after an impressive start to life at Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga giants spent an initial £25 million to sign him from Birmingham City in the summer (via Sky Sports).
But it appears that he could have headed elsewhere last year. Arsenal legend Adams claimed that the midfielder was close to joining the Gunners before Edu’s arrival scuppered a potential move.

“He was spotted very early on, not by me, but by the Arsenal recruitment office. The chief scout was absolutely bowled over by him and the great prospect that he is,” he told Sky Sports. “New sporting director Edu came in from Brazil, he had no European experience and no UK experience and I think it got lost in the transition.
“Unfortunately, the chief scout had the deal kind of done but we missed that one. He’s a great talent but unfortunately, he’s not joined the right club.”
‘Pain’
The news has not gone down at all with plenty of Arsenal fans on social media. Some, admittedly, are not convinced by Adams’s statement and doubt whether he was that close to joining.
Others however, are desperately hoping that there is little in the suggestion. Bellingham has established himself as one of the most exciting talents in Europe.
He has already made four starts for Dortmund. He is also a player who has played in the Champions League. Bellingham is arguably the kind of player that any club’s supporters would kick themselves over if they heard that they were close to signing him.
And some Arsenal fans are clearly hoping that a deal was actually nowhere near as close to being done as Adams suggests.
Here is how some of the supporters have responded to their former captain’s comments…
