Tony Adams has compared Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe to Robert Pires – but some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have reacted to his comments with real caution.

Smith Rowe, who was developed in the Arsenal, is now a regular first-team player at the Emirates Stadium.

The 20-year-old has become a key player in recent months within Mikel Arteta’s squad, where he’s proving extremely effective in the creative number 10 position.

He’s made 15 senior appearances this season in all competitions, scoring one goal and supplying six assists.

The English attacking midfielder continues to grow with confidence each game and has shown he can play on the wing too if needed.

Adams has made a bold comparison between Smith Rowe and ex-Arsenal winger Pires, who was an integral part of the club’s ‘Invincibles’ team.

“This kid has got talent. He’s got Robert Pires feet. Pires could run quicker with the ball than I could without the ball,” he told Premier League productions.

A selection of Arsenal supporters on social media are keen not too apply too much pressure on Smith Rowe by comparing him to a cult hero, who was one of the leading attackers in the Premier League at one stage.

Smith Rowe is still in the infancy of his career and it’s only this season that he’s starting to thrive on the big stage.

The creative playmaker is riding the wave right now with his good form, but there will be a time where things drop off for him and it’ll be telling to see how he reacts.
