A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react to comments made by Stan Collymore in the Daily Mirror in which he suggested that Diego Simeone would be the perfect manager to replace Unai Emery.
Emery continues to come under considerable pressure at the Emirates. The fans have really started to voice their displeasure with the Spaniard. It will have been almost two months since their last Premier League win by the time they face Norwich City on Sunday.
The problem Arsenal face should they sack Emery is deciding who should replace him. Plenty of fans clearly want change, but the club could be forgiven for wondering whether they would be better off making an appointment in the summer.
However, Collymore has suggested that Arsenal need to make a change now. And he has insisted that they need to do all they can to lure Simeone away from Atletico Madrid.
“He has a history of getting Atletico Madrid into finals, and if they get him now, at slightly less than his peak, he won’t cost a Jose Mourinho-style salary,” he told the Daily Mirror.
“They should – with permission – send the owners over to meet him and say: We know you don’t really fancy leaving Madrid, but here is a vision for you of the potential of Arsenal Football Club.
“He would fit what Arsenal need almost perfectly.”
As Collymore notes, Simeone’s stock is not as high as it once was. However, Atletico are still fourth in La Liga and have only lost one league game this term.
And it appears that plenty of Arsenal fans would love to see the club target the Argentinian. They believe that he could be the perfect figure to get the current squad back on track. He would certainly make the side much more difficult to beat.
Some however, have their doubts about whether he would be interested in leaving Wanda Metropolitano. As Collymore suggests though, if you do not ask, you do not get, and it is clear that many supporters would back the board asking about Simeone in the near future.
Here is what some of the Arsenal fans made of Collymore’s comments…
Not happening at all, but Simeone would be an interesting one. If we had a manager of his ilk I would honestly be able to take 1-2 seasons of real transition and inconsistency on the pitch, as I’d be so confident he’d eventually get it right.

Except for the fact that Arsenal’s players aren’t very good or athletic and Simeone wouldn’t be able to play his high-energy, everybody-tackles football effectively with most of them. #afc

Would always be my first choice. Tactically astute but runs the line of being defensively solid and attacklingly fluid so well. It’ll never happen though.

Always said this. The only manager I can confidently say will take us back to the top
