Arsenal fans react to Sky reporter claims on Joe Willock
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has claimed that Joe Willock might be handed an Arsenal lifeline, despite the fact the Gunners might also offload him.
Speaking to Football Daily on Sky Sports News, he said that Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Reiss Nelson and Willock could all depart during the current window. Although, of the three, Willock is the one who could still have a future.
The Hale End graduate spent the second half of 2020/21 on loan with Newcastle. He enjoyed a tremendous spell, scoring in his last seven games for the Magpies.
Arsenal want to do some business of their own. As a result, any incoming arrival at the club will force the trio back down the pecking order.
Arsenal would be wise to keep Willock
If the Gunners do get all of their transfer business right then Willock could be sold. There is no saying that everything will go swimmingly for Arsenal in that sense though.
The club aren’t in Europe next season and some players will have better offers. With that in mind, the club would be wise to hold onto Willock at this stage.
The 21-year-old really shone at Newcastle and with the Gunners in need of creative players, he deserves his shot.
Arteta has been known to give younger players a chance to shine in his team. With that in mind, he has to give the £40,000-a-week player a chance next season.
If he shines he could be Arsenal’s surprise package, if he doesn’t his form at St James’ Park should allow the Gunners to still get a decent price for Willock.
Supporters would welcome Arsenal handing Willock a chance
The youngster proved a big point to Arsenal during his time on loan with Newcastle. He was in good form and really dragged Steve Bruce’s team away from relegation trouble.
The Gunners aren’t blessed with an abundance of creativity. As a result, plenty are calling for Arteta to swallow his pride and utilise Willock for the coming campaign.
On the back of Sheth’s latest comments, supporters took to Twitter to discuss Willock and whether or not he could play a part next season. Here is what they had to say about the young playmaker.
