A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to slam Rob Holding’s performance during their Europa League clash with Vitoria on Wednesday.
The Gunners have moved a step closer to reaching the knockout stages of the Europa League. However, plenty of fans appear to be hoping that Unai Emery has also moved a step closer to the Emirates exit.
Arsenal produced a lacklustre performance in Portugal against the group’s bottom side who had gone into the game without a point.
Shkodran Mustafi had put Arsenal in front late on with what would prove to be their only attempt on target. But Vitoria would equalise in stoppage-time. And there was no question that Emi Martinez was the busier of the two goalkeepers over the course of the evening.
Vitoria’s equaliser saw Holding come in for a lot of criticism. The Englishman was beaten so easily by Marcus Edwards, and that allowed the former Tottenham man to get the ball into the box as the home side levelled the contest.
Holding has had a difficult time with injury. But, while plenty of Arsenal supporters were willing to give the former Bolton youngster time, it appears that that patience has now run out.
He has not enjoyed the best return. And considering that he was wearing the captain’s armband in Portugal, the fans expected to see a lot more from the centre-back.
Here is what some of the supporters made of Holding’s display…
ROB HOLDING SO GARBAGE ??????

Holding couldn’t even deal with a Tottenham reject. And he’s wearing the captain’s armband. Disgusting.

Mustafi has been better than Holding this season I must admit!

Rob Holding is so far from match fitness, he’s looked so ropey in a couple of games since returning. He’s return needs more time

What the hell happened to Rob Holding?

There’s a reason why holding only cost 2.5m. Watching sokratis and mustafi play week in week out made us all forget how mediocre Holding really is.

Holding is what Holding has always been. Average, 6/10 at best. I can’t pinpoint a single area of his game that I can say is his strength. He’s just a bloke playing footie.
