Arsenal fans react to reported interest in Ollie Watkins

A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Ollie Watkins amid reports that the Gunners are considering a move for the striker.

What’s the story?

The Sun reports that Arsenal are looking at potential replacements for Alexandre Lacazette, with his £180,000-a-week contract expiring next summer.

The report claims that both Watkins and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are on the radar.

As noted in the report, Watkins cost Aston Villa £28 million. And he has since gone on to prove himself at the highest level for club and country.

He scored 14 goals in the Premier League for the Villans last season. Meanwhile, he has made his debut for England.

Obviously, he will not come cheap. Villa would want to make a huge profit before they considered selling Watkins, who is so important to their style of play.

His energy and relentlessness makes him such a nightmare for defenders to deal with. He made a superb run to get onto the end of Matt Targett’s cross to score against Tottenham on Sunday.

And that is why there are plenty of Arsenal fans who would love to see Watkins join the club.

He is a boyhood supporter of the club. And he has shown with Villa, and with Brentford before that, that he can play anywhere across the forward line.

So it would be a real statement of intent for Arsenal to bring Watkins to the Emirates in the future.
