Arsenal fans react to reported interest in Manchester City defender John Stones

Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a move for Manchester City defender John Stones – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter are fuming with the speculation.

The Sun reports that Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has made the 25-year-old a priority target for the January window.

It is claimed that the England international would be “keen” to hold talks over a move and would even be open to the idea of a loan away from the Etihad Stadium.

The centre-back is desperate to be involved in England’s squad for this summer’s European Championships and is currently struggling for minutes at Manchester City.

Stones has been in and out of the Manchester XI during the past 18 months, with this current campaign proving to be a difficult one for him.

The ball-playing defender can on his day dictate play from the back and read the game well, but he does usually have the odd lapse in concentration in him.

Arteta is well aware of his talents as he worked as assistant manager under Pep Guardiola before taking the Arsenal job and is eyeing a reunion.

A selection of Arsenal supporters on social media believe that Stones would be too risky to sign and hardly be an upgrade on their current centre-back options.

One supporters even claimed they would rather re-sign retired defender Sebastien Squillaci, who was a former player under Arsene Wenger and a catastrophe at the back.
