Arsenal fans react to report linking former captain Granit Xhaka with Newcastle move

Steve Bruce is apparently an admirer of the Swiss international.

Former Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka has an admirer in Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce, according to the Times.

They report that if Xhaka is left out of Arsenal’s next few matches – he has missed the last two – the club is expecting the Swiss international to push for a January departure.

The report outlines this summer’s European Championship as a key consideration for Xhaka, as he is currently Switzerland’s captain but knows he needs gametime to keep his place.

And Newcastle are apparently looking at a short-term deal so long as it suits all parties, with Bruce keen to add running power and experience to his engine room.

Many Arsenal fans on Twitter have had their say and the consensus is that the lower reaches of the Premier League represent Xhaka’s true level, perhaps that he may struggle to even get into the Magpies team.

Now that he isn’t captain and his relationship with the fans is at breaking point, Xhaka looks to be edging closer and closer to the exit door and the supporters only seem too happy to see him linked with a move this January.
