Arsenal fans react to report club still wants Zaha despite impending Pepe deal

Arsenal are apparently still in the hunt for Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha despite the impending arrival of his Ivory Coast international team-mate Nicolas Pepe.

According to i News, Unai Emery hasn’t given up on the £130,000-a-week (Spotrac) flier despite the fact he looks all set to spend big on Pepe.

The report says Palace want at least £60 million for Zaha, which would push Arsenal’s summer spending to another dimension that few would have expected when the transfer window opened.

But it doesn’t make much sense from a financial point of view, with Arsenal’s issues at the heart of their defence still unresolved with William Saliba not arriving until next season.

That’s what many supporters took to Twitter to point out in response to the report that they still have an interest in Zaha – they want a centre back signed before anything else.

Spending huge money on yet another attacker while the defence still needs serious improvement would be bordering on negligent, as exciting as Zaha would make the Gunners’ front four…
