Arsenal fans react to report about Lamptey and Aarons

Some Arsenal fans have reacted to a report about Max Aarons and Tariq Lamptey.

According to The Athletic, while sources outside of the club linked them with the duo, there were concerns about the players.

Various reports have emerged over the last few months linking the side with Aarons and Lamptey.

According to The Sun in March, Arteta wanted the Brighton man to replace Hector Bellerin. Meanwhile, said the Norwich right-back was ‘very highly thought of’.

However, in reality, the Gunners were wary about the players’ height and ability in the air.


In that regard, it makes complete sense the Gunners moved for six-foot-two Takehiro Tomiyasu. The north Londoners signed the ace for £16m from Bologna.

Report about Aarons and Lamptey is concerning

Wanting a right-back who can head the ball seems to be oddly specific.

Whilst, it is understandable that Mikel Arteta wants someone who can slot into a three-man defence when in possession, there is a need for flexibility.

When analysing Tomiyasu, Aarons and Lamptey, there is a strange pattern emerging.

None of the trio are perfectly balanced players. They are either side of the extremes, too attack-minded or too defensive.

Both Aarons and Lamptey would have proven far better attackers than Tomiyasu.

Lamptey has shone when fit for the Seagulls, scoring once and assisting four goals in just 20 Premier League appearances.

And Aarons is part of a fearless Norwich side that allows him to bomb forward whenever he is capable.

But neither have the composure in defence and ability on the ball as the Japan international.
