Arsenal fans react to report about Emerson Royal

Some Arsenal fans are unhappy with reports about the club’s chase of Emerson Royal.

According to The Athletic, the Gunners were open to a swap deal between Hector Bellerin and Sergino Dest/Royal.

Talks with the Brazilian progressed the furthest with the coaching staff impressed with the player’s build. However, there were concerns over the ace’s suitability for Mikel Arteta’s system.

Arsenal brought in Takehiro Tomiyasu as a replacement for Bellerin, who departed for Real Betis. The Gunners paid Bologna £16m for the ace, handing him a four-year contract.

Meanwhile, Royal made the move to arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur for £25.7m.

Arsenal need to fix their ‘system’

Off the pitch, it would be hard to argue there is no plan at the Emirates Stadium.

The summer signings show clearly the club are looking towards progression for the future.

And with virtually all six players comfortable on the ball, it is fair to say a clear system has also been established.

Mikel Arteta seems hellbent on building a team full of technical players, who can pass the ball.

However, it is the Arsenal ‘system’ that needs fixing despite the decision about Emerson Royal.

The opening three games of the campaign have ruthlessly exposed how poorly executed Arteta’s system is.

Against Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City, the Gunners have created just seven shots on target.

Arteta’s system is the direct result of a lack of attacking penetration, and that needs to change moving forward.

So, while picking Tomiyasu instead of Royal is all well and good, will Arteta change how he implements his tactics and system?

Here is how some Arsenal fans reacted to the latest report…
