Arsenal fans react to positive update on 18-cap potential summer signing

Arsenal were handed positive news this afternoon over their pursuit of Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana, who they hope to sign during the summer transfer window.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) have reduced the Ajax goalkeeper’s ban from 12 months to nine upon appeal and that should be music to Arsenal’s ears.

Onana was suspended after testing positive for a banned substance in February 2021.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old. Now his appeal has been heard they could press ahead with their proposal.

Goal claim that Arsenal might have to pay just £7 million to sign the stopper – and that could represent a steal.

Onana has been impressive for Ajax, helping them to the Champions League semi-finals during the 2018/19 campaign.

In total, he has played 204 times for Ajax; keeping 83 clean sheets and winning 18 caps for Cameroon.

Arsenal are in the market for a new goalkeeper and this could be quite a coup for the Gunners.

Bernd Leno’s could seek pastures new; whilst Runar Runarsson looks some way short of being ready for first-team football.

Onana will be able to play from November following the result of his appeal. Arsenal could now go full steam ahead to secure a deal for the international custodian.
