Arsenal were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium yesterday, with Granit Xhaka coming on for some praise from the club’s supporters.
The Swiss star has been linked with a move to Roma all summer. Now, it would seem as though he’s set to stay at the Emirates, with Mikel Arteta confirming as much after the game.
Arsenal were beaten by their London rivals thanks to goals by Kai Havertz and Tammy Abraham. Xhaka scored Arsenal’s goal during the pre-season contest.
The 28-year-old has been with the Gunners since 2016. He has enjoyed an interesting time at the club with several highs and lows.

Last season, he was in fine form. He was a trusted lieutenant of Arsenal’s midfield, playing 45 games under Mikel Arteta.
In total, he’s made 220 appearances for the Gunners and some supporters might have feared they’d seen him for the last time.
Xhaka starred for Switzerland during Euro 2020, helping his team to the quarter-final where they were beaten by Spain on penalties.
Arsenal fans buzzing with Xhaka
It seems as though plenty of fans enjoyed Xhaka’s showing yesterday. He capped a fine performance with a goal, although it couldn’t help Arsenal claim something.
The Gunners won’t be in Europe this season but that could be a good thing. It means that Arsenal’s sole focus should be on the Premier League and climbing the table is paramount.

For Xhaka, it now looks as though he’s staying at Arsenal. It seems likely he will be a first-team regular under Arteta and supporters seem impressed with that decision.
The £100,000-a-week player has two years to run on his existing deal and it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will hand him an extension.
Following yesterday’s heroics, supporters were delighted with his performance and took to Twitter to rave about Xhaka.
