An Arsenal Under-21 outfit enjoyed a penalty shootout victory over Gillingham to finish top of Group J and earn a place in the knockout stages of the Papa John’s EFL Trophy.
It was the performance of Catalin Cirjan which caught the eye, as he opened the scoring and scored the decisive penalty for the Gunners in the shootout.
The 17-year-old’s goal in normal time was bizarrely cancelled out by Trae Coyle. The forward is on loan at Gillingham from Arsenal and it was he who took the game to penalties.

Cirjan stole the show though with a neatly taken panenka – which showed Fulham’s Ademola Lookman exactly how they should be done!
The 17-year-old is a Romanian youth international and checked in at Arsenal from Viitorul Domnesti in 2019.
A central midfielder, he was a standout performer last night and will look to continue improving as the month’s progress.
Cirjan has made three appearances for the under-23s this season and can also operate on the right-wing.
Following his display last night, Arsenal fans were quick to praise the teenage talent on Twitter.
He showed a cool manner to despatch his spot-kick and supporters think there is more to come.
Here is what supporters were saving about the Romanian.
