Arsenal fans react to performance of Bernd Leno during Liverpool win

Arsenal reached the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup last night after a penalty shootout victory over Premier League champions Liverpool at Anfield.

The Gunners had Bernd Leno as their hero of the hour after the goalkeeper saved penalties from Divock Origi and Harry Wilson during the shootout.

Arsenal face Manchester City in the last eight in a game which will see Arteta come up against Pep Guardiola, the man he worked under at the Citizens.

That fixture doesn’t come around until December but defeating Liverpool will certainly give Arteta’s team confidence.

Leno was the man of the moment against Liverpool and afterwards, fans took to Twitter to rave about his performance.

He made several strong stops to thwart the champions during normal time and then came up trumps in the shootout.

The 28-year-old is once again the club’s number one after losing his place last season to Emi Martinez.

The Argentine stopper has now been sold to Aston Villa, with Arteta in no mind as to who his first-choice goalkeeper is.

Leno arrived at Arsenal from Bayer Leverkusen, costing the club £19.3 million back in 2018 (BBC).

He earns £100,000-a-week (Spotrac) at the Emirates and has made 73 appearances for the Gunners.

Fans were quick to single him out for praise last night and were keen to congratulate him on a fine performance.

Here is a selection of Tweets from the Gunners faithful.
