Arsenal fans react to Pablo Mari’s FA Cup display

A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Pablo Mari’s display as the Gunners booked their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

Mikel Arteta’s men needed extra-time to see off Newcastle at the Emirates. Ultimately, it was Emile Smith Rowe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who scored the crucial goals.

Arsenal did have to weather a few storms however. And that was where Mari was able to shine, with the centre-back producing another superb performance.

Mari boasts a remarkable record for Arsenal. The Gunners have won eight of the nine games in which the 27-year-old has featured, with their only defeat coming against Manchester City last season.

They have also kept three clean sheets in a row. As shown by Whoscored.com, he completed 73 accurate passes against the Magpies. Just two teammates managed more.

He also managed three successful dribbles. Mari made four tackles, five clearances and managed three interceptions.

And his performance prompted plenty of Arsenal fans to take to social media to suggest that Mari deserves so much credit for his recent form.

It appeared to be a gamble when the Gunners made his move permanent in the summer. He had only made a couple of appearances up until that point before suffering a long-term injury.

But since his return, the Spaniard – who, in total, cost £14 million (The Sun) – has been excellent. And several fans clearly want him to keep his place and play alongside Gabriel Magalhaes moving forward.
