Arsenal fans react to Jose Mourinho’s comments about Willian

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has called Arsenal star Willian one of the Premier League’s best ahead of the North London derby – and some Gunners fans on Twitter have responded by insisting he’s playing mind games with his latest pre-match comments.

Arsenal make the short trip to rivals Spurs on Sunday in the Premier League table and go into fixture as underdogs.

Mourinho’s Spurs side are top of the table and appear to be moving in the right direction, especially when they’ve got two of Europe’s most in-form attackers in Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s Gunners team are 14th in the table and domestically have been poor.

The main problem has been in the final third, where they’ve scored just two goals in their last six league matches.

Mourinho has explained that Spurs didn’t have the money in the summer to sign Willian, who made the moved to the Emirates Stadium after leaving Chelsea.

He’s described the 32-year-old attacker as a major threat for the Arsenal team ahead of Sunday.

“We don’t have money for Willian. We cannot pay the wages that he gets at Arsenal so I didn’t want to waste our time because we cannot pay these wages. He is still dangerous, he is still one of the best players in the Premier League,” Mourinho said, as quoted by the Telegraph.

A selection of Arsenal supporters on social media aren’t convinced by Mourinho’s comments.

Brazilian winger Willian was signed as a short-term fix to try improve the XI and he’s managed three assists in the league so far, but ultimately he’s been nowhere near his top form for them.

The speed machine has enjoyed great success in the past in a Chelsea shirt, especially against Spurs, and is someone that thrived working under Mourinho at Stamford Bridge.
